Two teens found guilty in Steubenville rape case

This was one of the largest news pieces recently regarding the topic of misusing social media. To the maximum. Two high school football players were accused of raping a 16 year old girl at a party last summer. The girl did not remember any of this until it began surfaces on social media, there were tons of videos and pictures to prove the case, and the defendants even posted the images on various social media accounts and text messages discussing the events, read those here. Teens involves and at the party tweeted, posted, made video and posted pictures to the internet via instagram of this girl that night. The worst part is, many knew about the events (such as football coaches and other students) but did nothing or WORSE, tried to cover it up.

It’s stuff like this that makes me sick, and makes me believe that kids under 18 should not be allowed to use social media. Clearly they are too imature for the responsibility and do not understand the consequences of their actions. This just shows that event deleted things on the internet are not forever deleted, and this girl is going to have to live with this for the rest of her life. These two teenage boys lives are also ruined because of their stupidity.

  1. Tiffany — oh my gosh, this is awful. Unfortunately, this sort of thing happens a lot amongst teen to college-aged girls — there will be many witnesses to their rape, but no one will do anything. Often this occurs because people don’t want to be read as uncool or a snitch, but more frequently kids don’t report it because they assume someone else will. Teaches one never to assume.
    Thanks for he post.

  2. I read about this awhile back and I was pretty shocked with the stupidity, I then thought to myself hey if these kids were dumb enough to rape this girl in the first place im glad they were also dumb enough to put it online. Without that it may have been hard to convict these two kids of the rape if they didnt do this. I think it is horrible that this has happened and I wish it never did happen to anyone, but like in the article I posted about snapchating you have to think that it may be more of the kids and the way that they are disciplined and taught vs what the social media site or app gives kids the opportunity to do. Im sure if you looked at the amount of users on social media sites vs the amount of incidents reported it would be hevaly sided to normal everyday face bookers.
