Tech-savvy Newark Mayor Booker: Government flunking social media

Mayor Booker thinks it’s time for the U.S. Government to be more proactive in interacting with the general population via social media. You are definitely going to get more followers if you are active and engaging with them on a regular basis.

“It’s just using it as an announcement system, like you used to listen to in class: ‘The cafeteria will be serving roast beef, and I will be at this place or that place’,” Booker told Reuters after an appearance at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas. “But that’s not interaction, that’s not collaboration.”

  1. I truly enjoyed to hear how Mayor Booker is using social media for positive change and not as a way to promote himself. Mayor Booker seems like he is a common sense type of guy and I can appreciate that. After reading the article I wanted to become one of his followers. The article points out how our government has could do a better job of using social media as a way to listen and create change for their communities. If I were to tweet my community leaders or mayor and he or she replied that day, then this would show a real sense of awareness on their part. I applaud Mayor Booker on his efforts to improve his community.
